worst sermon ever?

This might quite possibly be the worst sermon I've ever read. But it explains why certain quadrants of ECUSA seem cursed and lifeless. Because Christ Crucified is not there. He's very explicitly unwelcome. Read the sermon. Pray for the woman who preached it. Pray for the Church.

Celebration of diversity in the face of prejudice and intolerance.

Ah, yes...diversity, prejudice, and intolerance. Don't those canards ever get retired? I suppose not.

Nice find. Certainly in the running for the worst. Another thing: the "conversational" sermon style isn't easy to pull off by even the most gifted orator. That's why most of us should avoid doing so, especially if we don't answer to the name "Socrates."

I once heard a sermon that began:

"We like to think of ourselves as good and enlightened people, which we are."

Mercifully there is no link to it.

You know, this lady posts on the HoB/D list all the time, she is a delegate from Newark...

wow, WB. It was going along ok for a little bit, but it sure went south in a hurry. I'm not sure whether to weep over the state of the church or to print this up and file it in my folder of jokes and funny stories. How quick she is to cut Jesus out of the church! And how quick to empty Christianity of the cross!

A little more background --Rev. Kaeton is, or was, the head of Oasis in Newark. Bad as this is, it is better than that of another lesbian priest in Newark who assured us that if we really wanted to go on believing in the physical Resurrection, it was OK, we would still be allowed to come to church.

I just wonder why these people want to take over a Christian church. Why don't they just go to a Unitarian Church. Or something. ARGH!!

Oh, you posted a sermon from the future Bishopette of Newark. (I don't doubt she'd get the nod.) I hope we escape this rotting diocese ASAP.

Although this sermon is truly terrible, it's not as bad as her work with women who are considering abortion. I think it's pretty obvious from where she's coming from—murder your kid and try to find ways to feel okay about it.

Lord have mercy indeed...

J-Tron and I spoke about this sermon today. I share with you the sentiment about it not being very good. But, after being at Yale for four years, how could you possibly be surprised? I guess I find your outrage to be surprising. I have heard some weird sermons in my tenure.

Its not just the theology - which is risable. Its the tone - so damn patronising - 'you people who only come on High days and Holy days' -‘The Rice, Water and Dirt Crowd.’'I will make of this question my Easter gift to you.' - Well whooppee do - I would have preferred an egg.

Re the Crucified One - where is He then?
