stupid blog mess

There is so much you can do on the internet. So much wonderful stuff. This is apparently my English speaking profile. What is yours? (Who cares, actually? Soon I will return to spirit-blogging.)

Your Linguistic Profile:

50% General American English

40% Dixie

10% Yankee

0% Midwestern

0% Upper Midwestern

I hope to have "Dixie" creep up to 100% some day. For now, I am gratified that it is what it is. I have got to beat down that phonetic yankee. Was Sherman's march to the sea not enough, but now there must be linguistic hegemony? Shame.

This is most disturbing. How did I pick up an Upper Midwestern? I've never even been there, nor could I even point out such a region on the map. I gave this machine one slightly dishonest answer though because none of the options fit just right, so perhaps this got the whole thing out of whack. Anyhow, my results:

50% General American English
25% Dixie
20% Yankee
5% Upper Midwestern
0% Midwestern

This machine also leaves little room for foreign English terms. Suppose I have just retured from the Punjab? I don't think they even have basements or cellars, do they? Mercy. Small-minded machines indeed.

With mine, I got 20% Dixie which makes no sense. I did pick up using the word 'y'all' in conversation sometimes from a friend from Alabama... but other than that, I've lived in New Jersey, New Hampshire and Michigan...

People have said I don't have much of an accent, but I did expect more Dixie or Midwestern.

70% General American English
15% Dixie
5% Midwestern
5% Upper Midwestern
5% Yankee
