thank you; it's good to be here

Fr. WB has kindly invited me to become a contributor to his blog. The bar has already been set high by the current roll of writers and readers, but I will endeavour to do my best. One could hardly ask for more.

Since by training and inclination I am an art historian, and by conviction and grace a Roman Catholic, I suspect that many of my posts will center around the nexus of those issues (in other words, cultural rather than theological issues; and much sympathy for my Anglican brethren and sistren).

Look for more of me in the future, but for tonight, I have little energy left for a more extensive post.

Welcome aboard Timothy.

It should be noted that Timothy prays the Anglican Daily Office (Book of Divine Worship), which to my mind qualifies him as Anglican Catholic (dot blogspot dot com).

Now that's the kind of ecumenism I like to see!

Welcome, Timothy!

Is the BDW office straight 1979 US BCP with some Roman Catholic collects for some days or has it got office hymns and antiphons at least for the canticles?

TYF -

The Book of Divine Worship is pretty much the 1979 Office. Most of the collects are even the same, as I believe is the lectionary. The only notable difference is in the formula for absolution, which is changed from the second person to the first person plural, i.e. "The Almighty and Merciful Lord forgive US," etc.

There is a terrific version of the 1662 Office that is enriched with antiphons and office hymns published by Canterbury Press. It also includes the Final Anthems of our Lady, the Office of the Dead, the Itinerary, the Litany of the Sacred Heart, and other useful (and beautiful) nuggets. Its what I use for my Office. It is here: http://www.amazon.com/The-English-Office-Book/dp/185311698X/sr=8-1/qid=1168104273/ref=sr_1_1/104-9106037-8630364?ie=UTF8&s=books

I can't recommend it highly enough.

Having enjoyed Timothy's contributions at the ecumenical "Theology of the Body" blog for almost a year, I heartily commend his thoughts to all of Fr. WB's readers.

We will miss you, Garland. So good to hear of your moving on and up!
