k.j. schori: catholics are dumb and children are bad for the environment
From the NY Times Magazine. Nice PB outfit, KJS.
Hat tip.
How many members of the Episcopal Church are there in this country?
About 2.2 million. It used to be larger percentagewise, but Episcopalians tend to be better-educated and tend to reproduce at lower rates than some other denominations. Roman Catholics and Mormons both have theological reasons for producing lots of children.
Episcopalians aren’t interested in replenishing their ranks by having children?
No. It’s probably the opposite. We encourage people to pay attention to the stewardship of the earth and not use more than their portion.
You’re actually Catholic by birth; your parents joined the Episcopal Church when you were 9. What led them to convert?
It was before Vatican II had any influence in local parishes, and I think my parents were looking for a place where wrestling with questions was encouraged rather than discouraged.

This is a spoof, no?
Ugh, deep sigh. Come to England. Seriously.
BFC
Is this how you justify your being a priest in the Episcopal Church? ...by posting this advertisement of your elected Presiding Bishop? Bishop Jefferts Schori's words really DO ring true:
"We’re all hypocrites. All of us. "
I thought it was hilarious! In a sad twisted sort of way.
Thanks for the clarification, Karen B. Actually I did think the poster was a spoof, and a funny one, but was just hoping the article was as well. Sigh. Sigh. Sigh.
I was e-mailed this news story and waited literally a day to collect my thoughts and write something.
That poster may not be such a bad idea. With attendence plummeting modern marketing techniques will be necessary if TEC really wants to sell the product, as Tom Lehar would put it.
A possible motto: "We're not just a religion, we're a constructed faith system, and YOU'RE the engineer!"
Abraham must have been even more stupid than all the Roman Catholics put together.
See Genesis 15:5
Bravo!

Wow, she really is that stupid, isn't she...
She isn't merely stupid. She is evil.
She is a part of the web of evil that would destroy all of Anglicanism as well as the Roman Catholic Church.
Amen! She's evil and dangerous.
Just become Catholic. It's really good this side of the Tiber.
Is there a question with which she has wrestled; rather than taking the hetrodox position? Can anyone provide an example?
